Services

what species do you look after?
We are most experienced and equipped to care for dogs and cats. We are also comfortable with rabbits and guinea pigs, although the same restrictions apply in terms of what we can't do ie surgery, dental work, hospitalisation. Got an animal friend a little more exotic than that? Feel free to call for a chat, if we can't help you ourselves, we are happy to recommend a specialist exotic vet with the expertise you need.
what about horses and farm animals?
Sorry, we are not set up for equine or farm work. Luckily there are some great vet services in our local region who will be much better equipped to help you out.
can you write a prescription for my pet's medication?
Yes, in some cases it might be possible to write a prescription for medication rather than dispensing it to you. However, please note that your pet will need to have been seen in person for a full consultation before the first script can be provided, and every 3-12 months after that (depending on the medication and how stable your pet's condition is). In all cases a prescription fee will apply.
do you offer telehealth/phone consultations?
Yes, this can be an option under some circumstances. However, as with human healthcare providers, we need to ensure that we are providing the best care to your pet, and fulfilling legal obligations too. This means we may need to schedule a face to face consultation if: - we have never see your pet in person before - this is a new problem, or the vet judges that a physical exam is required - it has been a while since we've seen you in person (6-12 months depending on the reason for the consultation) Payment will be requested in advance via an online payment link for any telehealth or phone consultations.

I really need an appointment today, why aren't you available?
Murrindindi Community Vet is a part-time service. As a busy mum with kids to wrangle, a big garden and animals of my own to tend to, and fingers in all sorts of community pies, time is precious! I (Elise) have also learnt over many years that I am a much better vet and can provide more compassionate and caring service to you and your pets when I am looking after my mental health and work-life balance. So I thank you in advance for respecting my schedule.
alternative veterinary services
If we have recommended tests or treatments that we can't provide, we will work with you to make an appropriate recommendation based on your pet's needs. For routine desexing, non-specialist surgery/dentistry, or general appointments if we are not available, we recommend: Animal Aid Veterinary Clinic 35 Killara Rd, Coldstream, Vic (03) 9739 0500 There are, however, many excellent clinics and services in our region. If you do see another vet, please let them know that you are a client of ours so that they can contact us to obtain your pet's medical history if they need it, and send any relevant records back to us.
Who can I call after hours or in an emergency?
For online video-chat appointments with a qualified veterinarian, you can use VetChat's 24/7 service. They can provide triage services and first aid advice, and help you decide if you need to have your animal seen immediately, or can wait until normal business hours. You can find more information or speak to a vet via their website. For in-person emergency care, the closest 24hour emergency centre is: Melbourne Animal Specialist Hospital8 Maroondah Hwy, Ringwood VIC 31341800 838 787 info@mashvet.com.au Local clinics may also have vets on call after hours

Payments

Which payment methods are available?
In person EFTPOS, online payment link via Tyro, or cash. No cheques.
can i get an account/credit?
No, sorry, we don't offer accounts or credit. Payment for any services is expected in full on the day of your consultation. If you feel that this may be a problem, please advise us BEFORE your appointment so that we can discuss options.

are you a charity/not-for-profit?

No, Murrindindi Community Vet is not a charity, it's a privately owned business. The use of the word 'community' in our name reflects our desire to provide quality services to our region, meeting pets and pet owners where they are at - be that in location, health or finances. However, with a professional background in animal welfare Elise is also keen to explore options for providing lower cost community-based services to pets and owners who may not be able to afford veterinary care, and will be looking for partnerships and grant opportunities to make this possible. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss this.
